RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — The Simone Show went out in style. And gold. Again.

Simone Biles put the finishing touches on one of the greatest Olympics by a gymnast, capturing her fourth gold of the games with an electric performance in the floor exercise on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old American completed an extraordinary stretch that included a team gold for the “Final Five” as well as individual golds in the all-around and vault and bronze on balance beam. Her five medals tie the most for an American female gymnast in a single Olympics and her four golds tie an Olympic record shared by four others.

“It’s been a long journey,” Biles said. “I’ve enjoyed every single moment of it. I know our team has. It’s been very long in competing so many times. It got tiring. But we just wanted to end on a good note.”

Biles embraced her longtime coach shortly after her routine — which includes a tumbling pass named in her honor and a Brazilian-themed segment intended to play to the crowd in Rio — and beamed when her score of 15.966 was posted.

Teammate Aly Raisman followed with a 15.500 to give her a third medal during Rio and six overall in her Olympic career. The 22-year-old team captain — who was second in the all-around to Biles last week — waved to the stands as she walked off the floor, likely for the final time as a competitor.

The medals gave the American women nine during the meet, the most ever by the U.S. at an Olympics.

Amy Tinkler of Great Britain earned bronze, though the day — and really the Olympics — belong to Biles. While she admitted she was a bit tired on Monday after her only one real mistake of the games — a wobbly landing on beam that cost her a shot at gold — Biles didn’t look it during her signature event.

Buoyant in a glittery red, white and blue leotard, Biles spent 90 seconds showcasing her talent. She doesn’t tumble so much as fly, her 4-foot-8 frame soaring over the white mat as if she was trying to touch the video board three stories above. She plans to take a break following the closing ceremonies and try to adjust to a life that will never be the same after nine days that elevated her from gymnastics’ best-kept secret to star.

American Danell Leyva matched Biles and Raisman with a pair of medals of his own, taking silver on both the parallel bars and high bar. The triumph also served as a bit of redemption for Leyva, a bronze medalist in the all-around four years ago but who has struggled with his form recently. He was initially named an alternate to the Olympic team before filling in when John Orozco went down with an injury.

Leyva will leave Rio with the only two medals by the U.S. team. Teammate Sam Mikulak narrowly missed out on the podium by finishing a close fourth in the high bar final.

Oleg Verniaiev of Ukraine took gold on parallel bars, followed by Leyva and David Belyavskiy of Russia.

Fabian Hambuechen of Germany finally reached the top step of the podium in the Olympics by claiming the high bar title. A bronze medalist in Beijing and a silver medalist in London, Hambuechen’s score of 15.766 was clear of Leyva’s 15.500. Nile Wilson of Great Britain earned bronze.

Simone Biles Expected To Earn Millions In Endorsements

Simone Biles continues to make headlines after winning four medals in the Rio 2016 Olympics. The 19-year-old gymnastics champion has won 14 medals in her career, making her the first person to own the most world medals in U.S. history.

Digiday.com notes that Simone already has $2 million in endorsement deals, including a range of TV, print and online campaigns for brands like Procter & Gamble’s Tide, United Airlines, Hershey’s, Core Power and GK Elite Gymnastics. Now, with four golds and a bronze under her belt, the biggest star to come out of the 2016 Olympics is on track to becoming a powerful brand ambassador.

As her star power grows, so do her projected earnings. The 19-year-old is featured in a Protector and Gamble commercial titled “Thank You Mom.” She is also in one of P&G’s commercials for Tide Pods.

Biles is also on Kellog’s Special K Red Berries cereal boxes. Additionally, she partnered with GMR Inc. on a line of home gymnastics equipment. Other deals include; Hershey’s, Core Power, United Airlines, GK Elite Gymnastics and Nike.

“Simone Biles represents the quintessential American dream, and that’s what makes her such a powerful brand ambassador,” said Nelson Freitas, chief strategy officer at Wunderman New York. “She has overcome tremendous obstacles and persevered through her hard work, resilience and determination. That kind of an inspiring story makes her a brand darling.”

Biles began practicing gymnastics in 2003, and is the first woman to ever win four straight world championship all-around titles. In 2013, at the start of her career in the world championships, the rising star won two gold medals (all-around, floor exercise). That same year, she also won a silver medal (vault), and a bronze medal (balance beam).

In 2014, she won four gold medals (team, all-around, balance beam, floor exercise). She also won a silver medal (vault) that year. The following year, the extraordinary athlete won four gold medals again in all of the same categories. That same year she won a bronze medal (vault).

Andrew Caravella, VP of Marketing at Sprout Social, said that Biles should be careful not to overexpose herself.

“For Biles, transferring success from the beam to brand ambassador will indeed be a balancing act,” he said. “With many existing contracts and a huge social following, it’ll be important for her to pick the right partners — those who can amplify her story and reflect her authentic self.”

She may be the greatest gymnast to ever walk the planet and work a floor routine like nobody’s business, but can Simone Biles do a paso doble?

We won’t know anytime soon. In a statement to People.com, Biles says she will not appear on the upcomign season of the popular reality show.

“With the tour going on, the fall [season] will be very, very hard to attend, so I can’t do that one,” Biles told Extra. I’m hoping for the spring [season]. If they would allow me to do that – that would be awesome.”

Biles’ USA teammate and fellow gold medalist Aly Raisman competed on season 16 of the ABC competition series in 2013, after she won gold in the 2012 London Olympics. She ultimately came in fourth place with partner Mark Ballas.

A source also tells E! News that “Bachelorette” JoJo Fletcher and former Disney star Jake T. Austin will join Biles to compete for the Mirrorball Trophy on season 23.

ABC wouldn’t comment on the casting report, but the full season 23 announcement will take place on “Good Morning America” on Tuesday, Aug. 30. The season premieres on Monday, Sept. 12 at 8 p.m.

HOUSTON (AP) — Fans waved American flags and cheered as Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles arrived home in Texas following the games in Rio de Janeiro.

The 19-year-old gymnast from Spring thanked the crowd Wednesday as part of the celebration at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston.

Mayor Sylvester Turner was among the dignitaries on hand and proclaimed Wednesday as “Simone Biles Day” in Houston. Turner presented Biles with a copy of the official proclamation, amid a backdrop of red, white and blue balloons arranged like a U.S. flag.

Biles — who won four gold medals in Rio — thanked the well-wishers and said she was “thrilled” at the reception.

A parade for Biles was planned later Wednesday in Spring, where her family operates a gymnastics center.

Five-time Olympic medalist Simone Biles isn’t going away just because the Rio Games are over: The 19-year-old gymnast will drop her first memoir in a few months.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the book Courage to Soar will be released by Christian publisher Zondervan and was co-written by journalist Michelle Burford

“I want people to reach for their dreams. If you’re willing to put in a lot of work, and if you’re focused and determined, you can go really far. There [are] so many people who have inspired me with their love and encouragement along the way — and I want to pass on that inspiration to readers,” Biles said in the publisher’s release.

“I feel honored to work with Zondervan. They publish so many great stories that inspire readers to live their lives with purpose,” she added.

On Ellen, the 4 feet, 9 inch gymnast explained the concept even further, saying that it’s “my life story and it’s coming from me so that people don’t read something on the internet and they’re a little bit unsure of it. So it’s about my life, a little bit about my family, and then how I got to where I am.”

Last month during the 2016 Rio Summer Games, the pint-sized Texan native was a global breakout star taking home five medals — four gold and one bronze — becoming the first female American gymnast to do so since Nastia Liukin in 2008, the LA Times noted. She was also the U.S.’s flag bearer at the Games’ closing ceremony.

Courage to Soar will be available on Nov. 15.

GYMNASTICS-OLY-2016-RIO-PODIUM

Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles is one of Fancy Bears’ latest victims—but as usual, she’s handling difficulty with style and grace.

The cyber espionage group, reportedly tied to the Russian government, hacked into the World Anti-Doping Agency’s database and acquired the private health records of Biles, and Serena and Venus Williams. The group released information that showed the American athletes were given medical exemptions to use banned drugs.

Addressing the impending controversy before it could negatively affect her, Simone disclosed that she has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. See her tweets below:

Simone made it clear that she’s got nothing to hide.

WADA General Director Olivier Niggli also released a statement concerning the breach of privacy, saying: “WADA deeply regrets this situation and is very conscious of the threat that it represents to athletes whose confidential information has been divulged through this criminal act.”

Simone Biles Soars To AP Female Athlete Of The Year

Simone Biles tried to treat the 2016 Summer Olympics like just your average ordinary gymnastics meet. So what if the stage and the stakes were different?

The floor was still the floor. The vault still the vault. The uneven bars still uneven. The balance beam still a four-inch wide test of nerves.

And the 19-year-old with the electric smile and boundless talent was still the best in the world. Maybe the best of all-time.

Over the course of 10 days in August, the biggest meet of her life ended like pretty much all the others in the four years that came before it: with Biles standing atop the podium, a gold medal around her neck and the sport she’s redefining one boundary-pushing routine at a time staring up at her. Not that she remembers any of it.

“It’s kind of a blur,” Biles said.

Maybe to Biles, but not to the rest of the world. Her massive haul in Rio de Janeiro — a record-tying four golds to go along with a bronze for the dominant U.S. women’s team — propelled her to stardom and rendered her last name superfluous. Now there’s one more honor to add to what on Twitter is known simply as #SimoneThings: Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year.

SimoneBilesAssociatedPress

In a vote by U.S. editors and news directors announced Monday, Biles received 31 votes out of a possible 59 votes. U.S. Olympic swimmer Katie Ledecky, who won four golds and a silver in Rio, finished second with 20 votes. Serena Williams, who won Wimbledon for the seventh time to tie Steffi Graf’s record of 22 Grand Slam titles, and three-time AP women’s NCAA basketball Player of the Year Breanna Stewart tied for third with four votes each.

The AP Male Athlete of the Year will be announced Tuesday.

Biles became the fifth gymnast to win the honor, joining Olga Korbut in 1972, Nadia Comaneci in 1976, Mary Lou Retton in 1984 and Gabby Douglas in 2012. It’s company Biles joined while completing a run of dominance that included three straight all-around World Championships, an unprecedented run at the top in a sport where peaks are often measured in months, not years.

The teenager from Spring, Texas, hardly seemed burdened by the outsized expectations. If anything, she embraced them. She opted out of a verbal commitment to compete collegiately at UCLA to turn professional so she could cash in on the lucrative opportunities afforded an Olympic champion, a bit of a gamble considering the window is so narrow and directly tied to success at the Games.

Yet Biles seemed immune to it. At least on the outside. Inside, there were more than a few butterflies when she stepped onto the floor during team preliminaries on Aug. 7. They vanished the moment she stepped onto the green and cream colored floor at Rio Olympic Arena as she and the rest of her “Final Five” teammates — Douglas, Aly Raisman, Laurie Hernandez and Madison Kocian — put on a clinic that showcased how substantial the gap between the Americans and the rest of the world has grown.

Then again, the gulf between Biles and every other gymnast on the planet — even her good friends in red, white and blue — may be even wider.

“In prelims I did very well I kind of shocked myself,” Biles said. “I came in thinking, ‘I’ve been to three worlds.’ I knew the gist of it. Once I got (prelims) out of the way, I just kind of relaxed.”

What followed was a run of brilliance: a team gold as a fitting send off to retiring national team coordinator Martha Karolyi. Another in the all-around two days later, where her score of 62.198 bettered Raisman by more than two full points, the gymnastics equivalent of winning a football game by three touchdowns. A third gold came on vault, the first ever by an American woman at the Olympics and Biles’ first in major international competition to fill the only hole in her increasingly peerless resume.

A bronze on beam followed thanks to a messy landing on a front flip, her only major form break in Rio. No matter, she put the exclamation point on her gold rush with a gravity-escaping floor routine that ended with Biles rushing to embrace longtime coach Aimee Boorman as their long journey to this moment ended in triumph.

The ensuing four months have been a whirlwind. Biles carried the U.S. flag at closing ceremonies, published her autobiography, took part in a post-Olympic tour with her teammates (including performing in eight shows despite a fractured rib) and hung out at the White House with the president. She remains open to giving it another shot in Tokyo in 2020. That’s for later. In January she’ll sit down and plot out her goals for the upcoming year. For the first time since she can remember, gymnastics won’t be on the list.

It’ll be weird, sure. That’s not necessarily a bad thing.

“I miss training with the girls and having a good time,” Biles said. “Whenever I go to the gym to visit them and I see them, I do not miss this part at all right now.”

If there is one person who had an incredible 2016, it’s none other than powerhouse gymnast Simone Biles. She turned in an absolutely stunning performance at the 2016 Olympic Games, a history-making performance that netted her five gold medals and the attention of the entire world. Since then she’s gotten to meet President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama during her trip to The White House, presented at award shows and visited the set of the hit show Pretty Little Liars. She’ll finish off her amazing year with a prestigious title given by the Associated Press for her stellar athletic achievements, as their Female Athlete of the Year.

It’s hard to believe that at just 19, Simone Biles has accomplished what many athletes spend their entire lives trying to achieve, which is why she is the perfect recipient of the title of Female Athlete of the Year as named by the Associated Press.

CBS News reports all of the details and criteria that factored into the AP’s decision to bestow Simone its highest athletic honor. Their report states, “In a vote by U.S. editors and news directors announced Monday, Biles received 31 votes out of a possible 59 votes. U.S. Olympic swimmer Katie Ledecky, who won four golds and a silver in Rio, finished second with 20 votes. Serena Williams, who won Wimbledon for the seventh time to tie Steffi Graf’s record of 22 Grand Slam titles, and three-time AP women’s NCAA basketball Player of the Year Breanna Stewart tied for third with four votes each.”

With this latest title Biles becomes only the fifth gymnast ever to be given the honor, following Olga Korbut, Nadia Comaneci, Mary Lou Retton and fellow teammate Gabby Douglas. Simone Biles is definitely #BlackGirlMagic personified and we here at HB are super proud of her!

Olympic gymnast Simone Biles and actor Mr. T will be among the celebs competing for the Mirrorball trophy on the upcoming 24th season of Dancing With the Stars, ABC confirmed to ET.

“Production has been trying to get Mr. T to do the show for years!” a source close to production tells the outlet. “He will be a great contestant this season.”

The 64-year-old Mohawk-ed actor, whose real name is Laurence Tureaud, last appeared on TV in 2014 in the movie, “WrestleMania XXX.”

Following the Rio Olympics in August, Biles was rumored to be among the contestants competing for Season 23 last fall, but her publicity schedule prevented her from joining the show.

“With the tour going on, the fall will be very, very hard to attend, so I can’t do that one. I’m hoping for the spring one if they would allow me to do that — that would be awesome,” Biles said at the time.

Simone Biles Isn’t Here For DWTS Judges: ‘Smiling Doesn’t Win You Gold Medals’

If you come for Simone Biles without being sent for, she will let you know that she isn’t the one.

During Monday night’s quarterfinals of Dancing With The Stars, host Tom Bergeron asked Biles why she wasn’t smiling when the judges were handing down kind words— and thankfully the Olympic gold medalist gymnast had the clapback of the year to the condescending and sexist comments .

“Smiling doesn’t win you gold medals.”

And Twitter was living for her response:

Later on during a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Biles admitted to that she has struggled to connect with the judges.

“I feel like everyone has their own opinion, clearly, and I feel it’s just how you take it,” she said. “I feel like I am trying, I am being honest, but if they don’t see that, I don’t know what more I can do.”

And while Biles was stoic taking in the judges criticisms during the show, she felt differently on the inside when it was happening.

“I had tears in my eyes,” she said. “I almost ran to the bathroom at one point, but I pulled it together.”

Whatever the results, Simone we always have your back!

Surprise! Simone Biles Voted Off ‘Dancing With The Stars’

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Team USA will not repeat as “Dancing with the Stars” champions after Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles was eliminated from the reality competition despite perfect scores for her two dances during Monday night’s performance.

Judges were visibly shocked following host Tom Bergeron’s announcement that Biles and dance partner Sasha Farber finished last in fan voting.

Biles was gracious afterward, saying she learned a lot about herself and planned to return for next week’s finale.

She was hoping to follow in the footsteps of Olympic teammate Laurie Hernandez, who won the Mirrorball Trophy last season.

Biles’ elimination leaves former Chicago Cubs catcher David Ross, NFL free agent Rashad Jennings and Fifth Harmony singer Normani Kordei in the running for the crown at the finale.

Simone Biles is not about to apologize for enjoying some hard-earned down time.

The Olympic gold medalist has been living it up for months after her stellar showing at the 2016 Olympics in Rio. With the exception of her awe-inspiring run on Dancing With the Stars, Simone has been chilling out before getting back on her grind for the 2020 Olympic games.

Most people wouldn’t begrudge her some rest and relaxation, but one Twitter user thinks she’s setting a bad example by taking an extended vacation.

Some random critic decided to burn up some of her “Seems like u have partied non stop for year #trash #unfollow.” Clearly somebody was bothered that the gymnast has been soaking up some sun on the beaches of Hawaii and they were not.

Simone clapped back with credentials, writing, “Talk to me when you train for 14 years and earn 5 Olympic Medals. I think kids would say otherwise. My year off is well deserved! Take a couple seats.”

Although Simone got her hater together, she revealed that the accusation really upset her.

Simone envoked the power of the block button to shut out the negativity.

For what it’s worth, we believe Simone is more than deserving of some peace and quiet after a lifetime of work. Remain sun-drenched and unbothered, Simone!

Simone Biles, Russell Westbrook Named Athletes Of The Year At ESPYS

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Russell Westbrook won best male athlete at The ESPYS, while Olympic gymnast Simone Biles earned best female athlete honors Wednesday night.

The 25th annual show honoring the past year’s top athletes and sports moments was hosted by Peyton Manning, who humorously mocked his reputation as a control freak and an overexposed commercial pitchman in the retired NFL quarterback’s opening monologue.

Westbook was the NBA MVP, led the league in scoring and set a record for most triple-doubles in a season with 42. The Oklahoma City Thunder star won the trophy over Kris Bryant of the Chicago Cubs, Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps.

“It’s been an unbelievable journey for me,” said Westbrook, a fashion fiend who adjusted his black shirt and green pants with wide white stripes before he spoke. “I want to make sure I look good first.”

Biles became the most decorated U.S. Olympic gymnast at the Rio de Janeiro Games, winning five medals, including four golds and a bronze. She beat out Olympic swimmer Katie Ledecky, WNBA star Candace Parker and Serena Williams for the honor.

“Ever since Rio it has been an amazing year,” Biles said. “I want to thank you all for believing in me.”

She was one of three double winners. Biles also won best female Olympic athlete.

Phelps won record-setting performance for extending his record Olympic medal haul and as best male Olympic athlete.

Aaron Rodgers won best NFL player and shared best play with then-Green Bay Packers teammate Jared Cook. Another Packer, Jordy Nelson, earned best comeback honors.

The biggest ovation of the night belonged to former first lady Michelle Obama, who posthumously honored Eunice Kennedy Shriver with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award for championing the rights and acceptance of people with intellectual disabilities through her founding of Special Olympics. Her son, Tim Shriver, accepted the trophy.

“Once a great first lady, still a great first lady,” Shriver told Obama as the crowd roared its approval.

The Patriots and Falcons shared the best-game award for the Super Bowl, won in a furious comeback by New England.

LeBron James, a five-time winner last year, was named best NBA player. Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels won best MLB player, while Crosby won best NHL player.

The show’s most bizarre bit involved Bill Murray accepting the best moment award for the Chicago Cubs’ World Series victory that ended a 108-year championship drought.

Wearing a red party hat on top of a backward Cubs cap, Murray cracked, “One hundred eight years of waiting is hardly a moment. This is the culmination of 108 years of momentum by momentous men.”

The actor and comic plucked a bottle of champagne out of a mop bucket being pushed by retired Cubs catcher David Ross disguised as a janitor. Murray used a sword to open the bottle and took a swig. He gave presenter Nick Offerman a bottle to open with the sword, and the longtime Cubs fans toasted and drank.

Ross eventually shed his disguise and writhed on the stage mimicking moves from his “Dancing With the Stars” appearance. Ross opened his own champagne bottle with the sword and chugged as Cubs owner Tom Ricketts watched from the audience at Microsoft Theater. The trio then poured champagne on each other’s heads.

The NBA champion Golden State Warriors earned best team honors, while Warriors newcomer Kevin Durant received the championship performance trophy.

“It was an unbelievable year,” Warriors guard Stephen Curry said. “A lot of noise and hype around it from the beginning of the year, but we tried to keep our head down and focus on the process. Hope to represent exactly what a team means.”

Actor Bryan Cranston presented the Icon Award to 89-year-old Vin Scully, who retired in October after a record 67 years broadcasting for the Dodgers.

“Hi everybody and a very pleasant good evening to you,” Scully said, drawing cheers at his signature greeting. “I hope you don’t mind, but I wanted to hear it one more time.”

Comedian Jon Stewart gave the Pat Tillman Award for Service to Air Force Master Sgt. Israel Del Toro for his strength through adversity and continued service to his country.

The Jimmy V Award for Perseverance was given to 15-year-old New Orleans Saints superfan Jarrius “JJ” Robertson, who is fighting a rare and chronic liver disease.

Simone Biles addressed a bucket list item on Sunday when she suited up and took the field with NFL’s Houston Texans Cheerleaders. The Olympic gymnast, who competed on season 24 of “Dancing With the Stars,” performed as the squad’s first-ever honorary member during the game against the San Francisco 49ers at Houston’s NRG Stadium.

Biles donned the cheerleaders’ signature uniform: navy blue cheer shorts, a cropped Texans top, metallic pom poms and the legendary red Houston Texans boots, which she received last week.
